Thanksgiving!

I love, love, love Thanksgiving. The food, the family, the party, I love all of it. This year was so much fun! My Aunt Patti and Uncle Ivan drove up from Cedar City, Meag and her boyfriend Ian showed up, Grandma and Grandpa Abbott came over and me and my folks. Dinner was pretty laid back, we ate so much that we couldn't eat dessert so we decided to play instead. For an hour or so, we did Wii Bowling and competed against each other. I love watching people when they are playing Wii games. They lean into the remote and try not to get the ball to curve.

After we finished "bowling", we went shotgun shooting and shot traps for about an hour and a half. We invited my cousins Clay and Ben over as well. It was so much fun! I love shooting guns! We had about 6 guns out on the range and so we all took turns. It was amazing to have my Grandparents be part of it. Grandpa was the official puller of the trap machine. I shot two different shot guns, a .20 gauge and .16 gauge. After shooting it up for a while, we then went back to the house for leftovers and dessert.

Dad went and did the chores while the rest of us got down to the card business. We played forever. We even had the opportunity to learn a few new card games. I loved spending time with my family. It is a huge blessing to have them in my life.

Funny story about Thanksgiving- This year my mom's side of the family got together, so I didn't get to see my dad's side of the family until Saturday. My Uncle Larry called us up and invited us over for a shin-dig.  It was really simple, not a whole lot of food- more of just snack foods, but it was good and so was the company. Anyway after this little meal, my cousin Halie asked if I wanted to walk down to the pond. I said Sure and Halie, Jentrie, Natalie, and Taylor all trucked down to the pond. We started walking around it and it was so pretty and clear. The weather was pretty good, so we were comfortable. Halie and I were chatting it up and the other three were having a good time as well. Well, this is where the story goes south! We made our way over to a rope swing. I think that we are going to walk right past it, but do we, NO. Halie is like let's swing on it! (Do you hear the warning bells? I sure did!) So my dear sweet cousins all jump on this rope swing and swing out over the pond and back into dry land. Halie looks at me and is like, "Do it." Secretly I really wanted to do it, but this is a really bad idea and I know it!!! I'm like No, I have no upper body strength (which unfortunately is not a lie). They all say "If I can do it, you can do it." Bad Idea!! I know this is not going to turn out well, but what the heck? I grab the rope swing and swing and fall right into the water. I completely dunk my self. My cousins are on the ground rolling! They are laughing so hard! And all I can think is  "Holy Crap, I fell in." I just happened to have my cell phone in my pocket as well because I was not going to fall in!

Now for the walk of shame. We are probably a mile or so away from Halie's house. So we start trudging, the whole time I am dripping wet and the people around the pond are staring and laughing. We end up back to the 4-wheeler and we climb on. I sneak back into the house so that maybe I can avoid the razzing that I am going to get for at least a second! No such luck. Natalie recorded the whole thing on her ipod and what does she do? She shows my entire family. I'm in the process of changing into Halie's clothes when my mom comes down. She asks if I want a whole new wardrobe, which I say no to and then she starts laughing. She tells me how much she loves me as she laughing, practically rolling on the ground.

And then I walk up the stairs almost dry, but parts of me still soaking wet. And my uncle's start in on me. Nice day for a swim? How was the water? Did you know it is November? Next time you should bring your swimsuit. Ha ha ha- I can laugh with them or bawl so I laugh at myself for being so dumb. Then my Aunt Julie looks at me and says, "You know Jessica, those stories that my brothers tell over and over again were starting to get a little old- way to liven things up and give us something new to talk about!" So now instead of a nice family get together, this Thanksgiving is going to be remembered as the time when Jessica jumped/fell into the pond and came home dripping wet! And remembered for a long time-definitely. I won't live this one down for a long time! Oh well, to be young and dumb, right?
